Meet Ebony Nyoni!

Meet Ebony Nyoni! Ebony is running for Winooski City Council. She's a member of our Class of 2018. A former educator and prominent community organizer, Ebony is a co-founder of Black Lives Matter Vermont.

What office are you running for and why?

I am running for Winooski City Council because I love my community and believe that women of color need a seat at the table.

What's your favorite thing about the community you hope to serve?
My favorite thing about Winooski is its diversity. This tiny city has residents from all over the world. Seeing the army of children marching down the hill after school reminds me of a rainbow that includes chocolate and peanut butter colors.

What role has Emerge played in your candidacy?

Emerge afforded me knowledge that I couldn’t have gained anywhere else.

What advice would you give another woman thinking about running for office?

Run! We need “woke” women running for more offices throughout Vermont now.

Editor's note: This is the ninth in our series highlighting alumnae running for local office in 2018.
